Dumbarton Academy Exclusive: Back To Non-Contact Training

Dumbarton Academy FP AFC Official Robert Porter has revealed their players had a safe return to Non-Contact training last Saturday, writes Tom Scott.

Accies followed the latest Government guidelines, and Robert kindly provided Scottish Amateur Football News with Exclusive photographs taken during the session.

Robert also had Information from the Caledonian League. He said: “Following the Government announcement that competitive football can resume from Monday 17th May, the Caledonian League have announced the 2020-2021 season William Turner Challenge Cup will run from Saturday, 22nd May until mid-June.”

“All at Accies are delighted at the prospect of participating in the Tournament. We await further guidance regarding accessing our gymnasium. Assuming the current pathway regarding Covid-19 remains in place, the 2021-2022 season is planned to commence as normal during August.”

Dumbarton Academy FP AFC: League Cup Final Photo Gallery

On Saturday I featured Dumbarton Academy FP AFC coming from a goal down to defeat Larkhall 2-1 in the 2016 Douglas Smith League Cup Final at Broadwood, Cumbernauld, writes Tom Scott.

Unfortunately, at the time of submitting the SAFN Article, no photographs were available from any source.

However, our good friend and follower of Scottish Amateur Football News, Mr Robert Porter, has been in contact with a lovely message.

He said: “Tom, One of my ex- Accies colleagues saw your Tweet regarding the final and sent some pics to me. Unsure if you can add retrospectively.”

Well, Robert, I am using them, and with a brief re-cap on what happened.

Accies trailed to a 5th minute goal on the big Friday evening (February) clash.

Central midfielder Alan Filshie equalised following a corner kick.

Extra-Time was looming until hero Andrew McDonald struck with 13 minutes remaining.

Manager Jim George guided his team to wins against Milngavie Wanderers, Rannoch, Doune Castle, Glasgow Harp, and Semi-Finalists Gartcosh United (6-5 on penalties) to leave them 90 minutes away from glory.

Accies Reveal Refurbishment Full Programme

Official Robert Porter has revealed the full extent of the Dumbarton Academy FP AFC gym changing room and showers programme currently delayed due to the Government lockdown, writes Tom Scott.

Said Robert “I can provide an overview of the Refurbishment Work currently being carried out within the Accies Gym Changing Room and Showers areas.”

“When the last lockdown eased, a team of Accies volunteers starting refurbishing the Changing Room and Shower areas in preparation for the footballing season restarting at some point in the future. In order to observe social distancing measures and protect the health of everyone, the work was being done by one volunteer individual at a time.”

“Unfortunately, this refurbishment work is now on hold due to the current lockdown. As soon as the Government deem it permissible to restart such works is a safe manner, we will perform a further risk assessment before any decision to recommence the programme is made.”

Academy Swap Dressing Rooms Upgrade For New Tracksuits

Dumbarton Academy FP AFC Official Robert Porter has revealed continued Government restrictions have forced them to alter their off-the-pitch planning, writes Tom Scott.

“Whilst the cessation of all Amateur football continues, all at Accies are continuing to do their best to utilise the downtime through planning for the club’s future,” said Robert.

“Given the Government and Football Governing bodies desire to avoid unnecessary travel, the upgrading of our club changing rooms and gymnasium is paused for the time being.”

“We have instead redirected our off-field efforts by focussing on improving our Match-Day equipment, to ensure we are in a good place when footballing activities return.”

“This week, saw new Match-D ay tracksuits delivered, which are currently being distributed to the players and coaches, whilst observing social distancing measures.”

“All at the club would like to extend our thanks to our club Kitman Phillip McBride for coordinating the purchase and distribution of the tracksuits and to Kevin Jackson of Pitch Teamwear for supplying them.”

“I have attached two Pictures: Accies defender Kenny Wilson and his son Roman Wilson. Roman regularly comes along to support Accies forward Scott Cowan.”

Academy F.P. Members Raise Four-Figure Sum From Fundraiser

Dumbarton Academy F.P. AFC members have raised a substantial four-figure cash sum after twice climbing up Ben Lomond on Saturday, August 24. The fundraiser exceeded all expectations according to spokesman Robert Porter, who said: “The players and coaches completed their climbs on Saturday, and have raised a fantastic £3,000 – which is double our original target. “Our thanks go to every single individual who donated to the fundraiser.”

The Club and Men Matter Scotland will now benefit from this superb effort. Men Matter Scotland provide support, services, sessions and groups aimed at both preventing and responding to Mental Health crisis in Scotland.
