Have Boots Will Travel For Southside Stars

Southside Star AFC Manager Lee Smart has given his definitive insight into four of their furthest- travelled players as they continue preparations for an August start in the GDSFC , writes Tom Scott.

Said Lee “We came across this for our first season as a team.”

“Our first player, Kane Robertson, travelled from Edinburgh when he wasn’t in Student Accommodation.”

“Kane came to us after having played for Crammond Blues in the South East of Scotland League.”

In his own words “he was the best player there as he had played 11s before that team was formed.”

“Kane brings a presence in the middle of the park for the team, constantly running back to help out, and also forward to support the attackers as much as possible.”

“Second player, Jamie Smart, travels from Kirkintilloch every week.”

“Jamie followed me (his brother) from RoukenGlen Amateurs when they folded. The biggest attribute he brings is his work effort, doesn’t matter where you play him – you know he is going to give it 100%. He might not be able to score inside the box, but you bet he will score a few worldies in a season.”

“Third player is Ben Chilton travelling from Clydebank. Ben played for Drumbank Thistle, Loved this team and felt at home before joining up with his friends at Southside Star AFC.”

“Ben brings so much energy to the left side of the team, constantly bombing forward but you better believe the big man can get back in time to help the team out in defensive needs.”

“The fourth and final player is Peter Hughes , who travels from Clydebank or Torrance every week.”

“Peter played for Drumchapel United Saturday team before he stopped playing, joined Southside Star AFC with his friend, Ben.”

“Peter is a utility man for the team, so far playing in a lot of positions. He is a Managers’ dream as he never moans – just gets on with it and gives his all.”

Star Boss Looks At Player Expectations For Next Season

Southside Star AFC Manager Lee Smart has been looking closely at their squad amid Non-Contact Training Sessions, and today exclusively reveals a list of players the Club will be looking out for in terms of increasing their potential even further in the GDSFC next season, writes Tom Scott.

Lee, who runs the Southside team with Assistant Manager Marc Lang, said “First up is last season top goal scorer Jamie Smart, followed by Paul McMahon.”

“Jamie is a utility man can play on both wings’ centre-mid or even full back.”

“Paul is a winger, and both are such work horses within the team – really up and down all over the park. Not scared to put in challenges, and then take on a player.”

“Next is Kane Robertson, who loves doing “doggies” in the middle of the park for a full 90 minutes.”

“The boy won’t stop running for the team.”

“Moving onto full backs Ben Chilton and James McEnhill. Both these boys can get up the park and whip in some excellent balls from wide for our strikers to attack. In addition, they are both also unreal from dead ball positions. Really hoping to see the benefits of this next season.”

“Last, but not least, has to be our strikers – Paul McBride and Ryan Duncan.”

“Starting with Paul (pops), he has come onto a game from never playing 11s before, to showing that he can hold the ball up, and also beat a player. Watch out for his absolute wand of a left foot.”

“Now Ryan, who has just joined the team for this season which was postponed, but in a few friendlies he was able to play, you could see that the boy has a goal scoring presence about him.”

“Just hoping he can live up to it for this season.”

Southside Star AFC: Confident Of Growing As A Team

Southside Star AFC Manager Lee Smart is confident the GDSFC team will emerge more confident and stronger for the 2021-2022 season, writes Tom Scott.

This is Lee’s first time in Management, but you could say he is learning more each day – and that includes promoting the team through Scottish Amateur Football News.

It is indeed refreshing to find someone so enthusiastic as this week’s articles on Southside Star AFC clearly demonstrate.

He said: “With the team moving in the right direction after our first season got cancelled due to Covid 19 and our 2nd season in the GDSFC being pushed back a year, everyone within the club is looking forward to the season starting – and show how we have grown as a team.”

“At the very start we didn’t really get the numbers to training on a weekly basis, but that has changed now – having the full team at training most weeks. I have enclosed pictures of our social distanced training sessions”

“The GDSFC League is going to be very competitive this season with a lot of new teams coming aboard, and established teams also joining the League. We can’t wait to get started.”

Many thanks to Lee Smart for the photographic coverage from the club sessions.

Star Shine A Light On Double Start-Back Sessions

Lee Smart has revealed the Southside Star AFC squad are being put through their paces at twice-weekly Non-Contact Training Sessions – and they can expect plenty of variation working with and without the ball, writes Tom Scott.

Gaffer Lee said “We have been training since a week past Sunday when the rules for Non-Contact Training came into force.”

“The boys are hating the Management team of me and my Assistant Manager, Marc Lang, as we are treating this as our pre-season, so making the sessions two hours long on a Sunday afternoon, and a Wednesday night.”

“Lots of fitness work without a ball the now, but have started adding in dribbling and passing.”

“It’s great to have the team back together on the pitch doing some sort of training and football, as at the end of the day we all love getting a kickabout with our friends.”
