Around The Amateur Football Scene (02/09/2020)

@AmmyFitbaNews Writer Tom Scott takes his midweek look at what has been happening around the club scene.

Moorpark Athletic are busy on the signing front and have already brought in Michael Smith, Anthony McLaughlin and Cammy Johnstone.

Rhu Amateurs are strictly following SFA guidelines in playing localised friendlies and I understand two have been organised against Dumbarton United Amateurs (September 12) and Lomond Thistle (September 17).

Gartcosh United have three attractive friendlies coming up against Doune on September 12, Syngenta a week later, and a September 26 meeting with Shortlees Amateurs.

Colville Park E AFC, whom we featured having signed five newcomers this week, have now recruited defenders David Quinn (ex- Duncanrig AFC) and Sean Tidser, who played at Forth, plus Duncanrig midfielder Jonny Aitken.

East Kilbride Harp have landed a double boost with E.K. Offices. Com ( Office and Storage to Let ) being paraded as their new Away Kit Sponsor and after a great deal of work carried out by their coaching staff, the Harp players will have all tracksuits sponsored by Standard Real Estate Ltd. Brilliant effort by all concerned.

Eaglesham AFC have managed to secure friendlies for their Caledonian League squad, but are seeking opponents for the team who play in the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL. You can choose from a mixture of home/ away games on September 12, 19 and 26.

Southside United AFC. have organised both Tuesday evening and Saturday friendlies this month. The list includes Kings Park United, Springburn Thistle and Glasgow East.

East End Handed Opening Day Fixture At Sons Of The Rock

Division 1 East End Athletic AFC have been handed an away day match against Dumbarton United AFC in week one of the GDSFC League.

United have long standing history in Scottish football dating back over 60 years, and will be a tough nut to crack in one of four fixtures released by League officials. East End will be at home in Week 2 against Finnieston, who are flying the flag for Glasgow’s West End.

Southside Star AFC are visitors in Week 3, and the quartet of game action is rounded off at hosts Kelvindale, who pride themselves on being organised by a determined and passionate group of coaches.

Dale won their first trophy in season 2019-2020 when they defeated Whitemoss AFC after a dramatic penalty kick shoot-out to claim the Christine Milligan Trophy.

Exact dates for all fixtures have still to be confirmed.

Spartans Lead The Way In Glasgow League Title Campaign

Southside Spartans AFC are rated among the favourites for another title success in the GDSFC campaign.

Spartans already head an impressive list of clubs in the Only Sport Ltd sponsored Premiership set-up.

The quality and variety of 36 clubs in league membership will undoubtedly increase competition at all levels.

There appears to be a good mixture of established amateur clubs alongside newcomers.

Dumbarton United AFC have a proud history dating back to 1958, Maryhill Black Star AFC can be relied to continue their ethos of possession-based quality football out from the back, and first season Renfrew Rovers AFC aim to give local talent a platform to showcase individual ability from their base at New Western Park.
