Club Interview: Vale of Clyde (Saturday)

Writer Tom Scott continues his excellent Club Interview series with the focus on David Andrew, who is co-manager at the new Saturday Morning team. Can we also thank Mr Mark Mackay – Manager at Vale of Clyde’s first team, who will embark on a new challenge themselves within the West of Scotland League set-up.

As this is a new team at Vale of Clyde Football Club, what was your previous background in football?

Manager/Coach at Eastend Colts youth team coach 2014-2019 winning 10 trophies – including a treble in 2018. Qualified to a C Licence level and about to take my B Licence.

What league will the team be playing in?

Strathclyde Saturday Morning Football League Championship ‘B’

How has the recruitment process been during Covid-19?

Glad to say that recruitment has went really well, the personnel we have acquired has been of a great standard as is the depth of our squad. Our only issue as I’m sure most teams have faced is the lack of training.

Do you have a team sponsor?

As of yet, no but we’re running a fantastic competition to sponsor both Saturday and Sunday teams for 2 seasons.

How have you found linking up with a famous name like Vale of Clyde?

Having the backing of such a big club has definitely helped but the biggest thing in attracting players has been the pathway that the club has introduced. This will only serve to help the club in the future and also gives a great opportunity to younger players to be part of something great.

What are your aims and ambitions for the season ahead, bearing in mind we have no start date, and there could be fewer games than normal?

A club of this size should be pushing to win trophies from the off, and we’ll be no different. We will also be looking to improve our younger players to try and get them to push towards the first team.
