“Another good run out for the boys prior to our Centenary Cup fixtures starting on the 14th of August. We now look forward to an away fixture this Saturday against a very strong Giffnock North side.”

“We are on the lookout for midweek friendly matches home or away as we approach the start of the Cup fixtures. If any teams are available, please contact us directly via twitter. Castlemilk Captain Praises Friendly Opposition

Andrew Gilmartin lavished praise on recent friendly opponents St Joseph’s AFC following a very competitive clash at Glasgow Green, writes Tom Scott.

Midfielder Andrew knows St Joe’s Gaffer Adjie MacColl and their players by revealing: “He (Adjie) also has a well-respected side.”

“We had a few great games against St Joe’s last season.”

“One of our players was sent to the hospital and has come away with damaged ligaments in the ankle area. ”

“He will be out for a few months I reckon.”

Castlemilk OBC won the St Joe’s game 2-1 and that gives them a boost ahead of what will be an incredibly competitive Group stage of the SAFL Centenary Cup due to commence on August 14.

The beaten Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup Finalists are in Section 3 alongside Arthurlie FC Amateurs – no introduction needed there as they lost 2-0 against them at Glasgow Green – Easthall Star and Kings Park Rangers.

Andrew admitted “It looks as though we have the toughest group in the Section for the Centenary Cup once again.”

Castlemilk Step Up To The Plate Against St Joes

Castlemilk OBC took plenty of positives – and a 2-1 victory – in their weekend Friendly according to midfielder/ captain Andrew Gilmartin, writes Tom Scott.

Friendly at Toryglen Sports Centre.

Castlemilk Obc 2, St Josephs AFC 1.

Goals – 1x Ridge, 1x Moran.

Said Andrew “Everyone stepped up to the plate after several call offs for the game leaving us with a depleted squad. The boys worked as a unit and it was a good run out for all against top opposition.”

“Both teams played attacking football in extremely warm conditions. Castlemilk were 2-0 up at half-time after a very good first half with plenty of energy in the midfield area, and the shape of the team was looking solid.”

“Some 20 minutes into the second period, St Joes netted and this made it a long finish to the game with the opposition looking strong towards the final whistle.”

“The exercise benefited both teams and we wish St Joes all the best for the season ahead.”

Many thanks again to Andrew Gilmartin for his Match Report/ Comments.

And in a first for Scottish Amateur Football News, I am able to bring our followers and readers exclusive comments from BOTH CAMPS.

Arthurlie FC Amateurs and Castlemilk OBC have been absolutely superb supporting SAFN with their individual coverage of player items, results, scorers, reports and photographs.

In the absence of other officials/ member Clubs coming forward, Stephen Connelly (Arthurlie) and Castlemilk OBC player / captain Andrew Gilmartin have offered up 110% co-operation.

Stephen and Andrew have told me they can see the value of publicising their individual Club (s) via the “News”.

Both are members of the Scottish Amateur Football League – the oldest set-up in the country.

Yes, in Andrew’s case, he filed a report from the LOSING Castlemilk Camp – not many would have carried out that job.

What I usually experience is “No Comment.”

I can’t thank Stephen and Andrew enough from “our team” at Scottish Amateur Football News.

To kick -off, here is what STEPHEN CONNELLY had to say after the final whistle.

“Cup finals are all about winning and the boys got the job done.”

“I don’t think anybody could really argue with the result – in the key moments, we were excellent.”

“The first goal was always going to be crucial and it’s a top delivery from Kyle and a great header from Joe.”

“The second goal is a mistake at the back for Castlemilk, but it comes from the pressure our guys put them under. The save from Bish (Goalkeeper) at 0-0 deserves special mention – that was crucial.”

“Castlemilk are a good, experienced side and again, it speaks volumes about the players we have here, that they were able to go toe to toe with them and come away with the Cup.”

“It’s a great start to our Amateur journey and now we are hungry for more success.”

“We have an open day at Arthurlie next Saturday and then we will look to arrange a few friendlies ahead of the new season.”

“Commiserations to Castlemilk, and we wish them all the best for the season ahead.”

Photographic coverage of the Final celebrations also provided by Mr Stephen Connelly.

Jimmy Marshall Cup Final Coverage

GLASGOW GREEN: AFTER-MATCH SPECIAL

Arthurlie FC 2, Castlemilk OBC 0.

Moving over to the Castlemilk OBC Camp, and the report/ comments from midfielder and captain ANDREW GILMARTIN.

Starting 11 – Goldfarb, Brown, Ridge, Coll, Connelly, McKenna, Moran, Gilmartin(C), O’Brien, Gillan, Garth.

Managers Man of the Match – Coll.

Said Andrew “Congratulations to a very good Arthurlie side who deserved their Cup Final win on the day.”

“This was a game of very few chances in which Arthurlie were clinical in, and with our centre half scoring another avoidable own goal, this sold the jerseys for us in the end.”

“Arthurlie started the game on the front foot bursting with energy throughout. We managed to keep the score 0-0 until half time with both teams not creating many clear-cut chances.”

“The goals came in the second period where Arthurlie opened the scoring with a great delivery and back post header for 1-0.”

“We only really looked dangerous from set plays with a few great crosses into the box, however, no conviction to put the ball in the opposition net.”

“Another own goal from Ridge with 15 minutes to play killed us, and Arthurlie took home a well-deserved Cup Final win.”

Thank you to Andrew for his Castlemilk OBC Report, and the Arthurlie Report from Stephen Connelly.

Castlemilk OBC: The Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup Latest

Focus On The Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup Final

Only hours from the kick-off at the Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup Final, writes Tom Scott.

All roads lead to Glasgow Green (2pm) where Castlemilk OBC and Arthurlie FC Amateurs will compete for the silverware.

I am personally delighted the pair have made progress through the Group and knock-out stages as they are the only clubs from the Scottish Amateur Football League that have been willing to co-operate with myself in trying to promote and publicise the game via Scottish Amateur Football News.

Thanks to them, I have received fixtures, results and individual Match Reports.

Here is a rundown from Andrew Gilmartin (Castlemilk OBC) and Stephen Connelly, at Arthurlie FC Amateurs.

Castlemilk OBC Midfielder and Captain Andrew Gilmartin dished out huge praise to their squad after a third game in six days saw them reach the Final of the Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup.

Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup –

Semi-Final played at Toryglen.

Castlemilk OBC 3, Lochgilphead Red Star 2.

Goals – 2x Moran, McGuigan.

Assists – 2x Connelly, Gilmartin.

Man of the Match – Moran.

Starting line-up.

Goldfarb, McLellan, Ridge, Coll, Connelly, McKenna, Moran, Gimartin(C), O’Brien, Garth, McGuigan.

Said Andrew Gilmartin “A lot of Semi-Final drama including a penalty saved by the Lochgilphead keeper from Gilmartin within 5 minutes of the kick off, and also an own goal by Ridge in the 90th minute.”

“The game was very comfortable for us until the last 10 minutes as we cruised to a 3-0 lead, and conceded 2 late goals with 3 games in 6 days eventually taking its toll resulting in a lack of focus and poor decision making near the end.”

“For the 80 minutes prior, the boys were superb playing very good football and controlling the game with the opposition having very few chances.”

“We took the lead through an outstanding finish from McGuigan in the wide left area curling his effort into the far top corner.”

“A great piece of play down the left-hand side then saw Connelly cross low for Moran to arrive and calmly finish into the net making the score 2-0.”

“The score was 2-0 going into half-time with Castlemilk firmly in control. Just 5 minutes into the second half we worked a quick throw in down the left-hand side, and Gilmartin delivered an inviting cross for Moran to control and finish for his second goal of the game.”

“After making 4 changes with the team in full control of the game, this seemed to disrupt our shape and flow. Lochgilphead then made it 3-1 with a great finish from Caskie with 5 mins to play.”

“Shortly thereafter a mix up between Goldfarb and Ridge saw us score an own goal to make the scoreline 3-2. This made it a very nerve racking final few minutes.”

“On reflection, the Managers Man of the Match, Moran, was extremely influential throughout with an outstanding performance, and bagging 2 goals on his way.”

“Now we look forward to our meeting with new boys Arthurlie FC Amateurs in the Final today at Glasgow Green.”

“Both teams will be full of confidence and it has the making of a great Cup Final.”

Once again, many thanks to Andrew Gilmartin, who plays and captains Castlemilk OBC from midfield.

Said Andrew Gilmartin: “This was Castlemilk’s first competitive game back, which was a must win.”

“The boys dug deep throughout the game that was played on a horrible surface.”

“Now onto Wednesday night v Kings Park Rangers @ a neutral venue in Stepford as we still can’t book our home pitch, Barlia, which seems to be affecting several decent amateur sides including a Castlemilk Dynamo team who recently won their Division 1A in the Central League.”

“It will be tough for the boys to be playing 2 games in 3 days due to fixtures being crammed in last minute but we have no other option.”

Jimmy Marshall Summer Cup: An Exclusive Rundown

Many thanks to Mr Stephen Connelly (Arthurlie FC Amateurs) for sending through an exclusive rundown on the Jimmy Marshall

Summer Cup which is organised by the Scottish Amateur Football League, writes Tom Scott.

Only Group C has still to be decided, and had been held up due to the recent Scottish Government travel ban – great to see clubs back on the park again!

Thanks to Stephen (Arthurlie FC Amateurs) and Andrew Gilmartin (Castlemilk OBC), who have been supporting Scottish Amateur Football News with reports etc directly to myself via Email.
