The Latest From The Scottish Select Squad
Cumbernauld Colts 1 SAFA Select 2
Scorers: Lee Hadden (53), Richie Lawson (68)
On Monday evening, the sides produced a highly entertaining and competitive match at a bitterly cold Broadwood Stadium. Scotland survived a sometimes torrid first half to turn around their fortunes completely and, in the end, deservedly edge an absorbing match.
The Colts were the first to threaten with a quick foray down the Scotland left. Chic Clark produced an early save, turning around a drive from just inside the area.
Scotland looked lively down both flanks. Debutant, Lee Hadden impressed down the right and combined well with Tyler Fulton and Lewis Cameron. After 20 minutes, Lewis Cameron latched onto a subtle pass inside from Lee Hadden and struck a low first-time shot the keeper did well to divert for a corner.
Cumbernauld impressed both with the intensity of their pressing and the lightning pace of their counter-attacking play. Time after time they broke clear of the Select backline to forge clear opportunities.
Scottish Amateur FA Select: Training 2 February / Friendly 3 February
Colin MacLeod has confirmed his squad for the next Select training session, at Falkirk Stadium on Sunday 2 February. Players will report to the Stadium for 10.30 am, with a light session running between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.
The following evening, Monday 3 February, the Select will play Cumbernauld Colts at Broadwood Stadium, with an 8.30 pm Kick Off.
Scottish Amateur FA Select 2 Camelon Juniors 1 (Half-Time: 0-1)
A strong second half performance saw the SAFA Select side edge a competitive and entertaining friendly against a Camelon side currently enjoying a rich vein of recent form. Both sides deserve great credit for producing such a high-quality match in horrendously wet conditions.
Scottish Amateur FA Select: Training 24 November / Friendly 26 November
This coming Sunday, 24th November, the SAFA Select squad which Colin MacLeod announced earlier this month, will return to Falkirk Stadium for their latest get-together. A number of the group will be absent due to their involvement in the Ayrshire AFA versus Caledonian AFL Inter League Tournament match.
Scottish Amateur FA Select 4 Whitburn Juniors 0
Scorers: Lewis Cameron (16), Daniel Finnigan (25), OG (45), Michael Osborne (85)
The SAFA Select recorded a convincing win in their first friendly match of the season.
The Select opened the scoring on 16 minutes. John Robertson started the move with a ball wide to Ciaran McElroy. McElroy curled a precise cross to the back post. Lewis Cameron rose unchallenged to direct a precision header back across goal and into the top corner for 1-0.
“Colin MacLeod and his coaching team welcomed 22 players to today’s squad get-together at a rain-soaked Falkirk Stadium. There were 8 call offs, mainly due to injuries sustained during yesterday’s matches.
Despite the constant and often-heavy rain, the players were in fine fettle and performed impressively. It was heartening to see the new players welcomed into the group and, by the end of the session, looking as if they had been permanent fixtures.”
First Training Sessions for the SAFA Select to take place on Sunday 3rd November, with a second session on Sunday 24th November. Both sessions at Falkirk Stadium.
The Scottish Amateur FA Select will follow this up with a friendly match versus Whitburn Juniors FC on Tuesday 5th November 2019 (Dalziel Park, Motherwell) with an 8pm Kick Off
