Pre-season Friendly
Saturday 17th July 2021

A strong second-half performance saw Wishaw secure the win in this pre-season friendly that was played in a competitive manner. Both teams played well in the blistering heat and will be pleased with their efforts as they build towards their respective league campaigns

It was Accies who started the match on the front foot. Good pressure on the Wishaw rearguard saw Accies gain possession of the ball. Scott Cowan then saw his shot go wide.

Andrew Burton then did well inside the Wishaw box, twisting and turning and then flashing a cross across the face of the Wishaw goal. Unfortunately, there were no Accies takers.

Shortly after, Burton released Conor McGlinchey who found Callum Shipcott inside the Wishaw box. Shipcott’s first touch let him down and the chance was gone.

Wishaw staring coming into the game more and saw a Brian Ross shot go over Accies bar.

A long ball then had Accies rearguard in all sorts of trouble, Jamie Moir’s resultant shot went wide.

Wishaw took the lead just after the hour mark, when a shot from midfielder nicknamed “JT” (name unknown) found it’s way into Accies net.

Accies pushed forward in search of an equaliser and were unlucky when an Andrew MacNally header went wide following some good set-up play by Kenny Wilson.

Andrew Burton then had an opportunity from a free-kick 25 yards from goal. The shot lacked any real pace and failed to trouble Wishaw keeper Sandy Thompson.

Wishaw created more opportunities, which brought good saves out of Accies keeper Andrew Campbell.

A well worked free kick saw Wishaw score a telling second goal, which Luke Dickson finishing smartly.

Accies manager, Michael Dickie, was please with his teams’ performance. “Whilst I never like getting being defeated, the final result wasn’t important today. This match was the first of four friendlies that we have planned and my players’ efforts for the majority of the match was excellent. The heat took its toll on the players after about 70 minutes, which was understandable.
