Thorn Athletic v Dumbarton Academy FP AFC: All The Match Action

Once again, many thanks to Mr Robert Porter for his comprehensive coverage on behalf of Scottish Amateur Football News, writes Tom Scott.

Thorn started the match on the front foot and saw an exchange between Dean Scott and Cameron Armstrong leave Armstrong with the opportunity to shoot. The forward missed the target.

Accies responded and saw Sam Degg pass towards Andrew MacNally. MacNally beat Joseph Rae but saw his shot go straight at Ryan Ward.

On twenty minutes Accies keeper Andrew Campbell saved with a strong hand following a shot from Armstrong.

Again Accies responded and should have taken the lead on thirty five minutes. An Andrew MacDonald shot was slightly deflected and landed at the feet of David Allan 6 yards out with an open goal. The forward couldn’t shuffle his feet quickly enough and skewed the opportunity wide with the ball hitting his shin.

Shortly after, David Allan set up Callum Shipcott – who saw Thorn keeper Ryan Ward save well

Half time 0:0

Accies stepped a gear in the second half.

David Allan produced a tempting cross that saw Ian Weir Paterson do well to steer clear from a corner under pressure from Scott Cowan.

Just after the hour Jack Buchanan released Callum Shipcott down the right. The midfielder, who has been playing well recently, saw his cross scrambled clear.

Thorn substitute David Edwards tried his luck from distance but missed the target.

Cameron Armstrong then saw red from referee Tam Gilchrist following an inappropriate comment.

Thorns Martin McInnes thought he had opened the scoring when a “cross come shot” hit the inside of Accies post, however the ball bounced back into play.

With twelve minutes to go, Accies scored what proved to be the winning goal. Callum Shipcott beat his marker down the right, then sent a tempting cross into the Thorn box where Andrew MacDonald met the ball and crisply shot home.

Accies substitute Shane Jackson saw an opportunity spurned, before having to be substituted again due to injury.

Full time 0:1

Accies Manager, Michael Dickie, was delighted by the win which put Accies in a strong position to qualify from the group section stage to the Semi Final of the competition “I’m delighted with the teams performance. I felt we were worthy of securing all three points”.
