The start of another weekend – and a new name on board for my Big Interview Series, writes Tom Scott.
It is STUART SYME at Glasgow Elim Football Club. The Manager, Coach and Player Interviews have featured just about every week since March, 2020. Two of the regular ideas I brought into Scottish Amateur Football News – no cut and paste from Twitter.
And now that some Leagues have started Cup games and many other clubs around the country are playing Friendlies, we have been able to feature Pre-Match Articles.
WHAT IS YOUR FULL NAME AND YOUR POSITION (S) WITHIN THE ORGANISATION?
“My name is Stuart Syme, I am the Manager/Coach and sometimes Player at the club. I am helped by Stephen Frew who, for want of a better description, is the “Director of Football” – a wee tongue in cheek way we describe the thankless tasks he does and I’m very grateful for.”
WHAT IS THE FULL NAME OF THE CLUB AND IN WHICH LEAGUE DO YOU PLAY?
“We are Glasgow Elim Football Club. We are currently in the SECL Div 2, however there may be a restructure.”
HOW HAS THE RECRUITMENT BEEN DURING THE PANDEMIC?
“We’ve been lucky to keep the same core of players, and we have had 2 or 3 new faces along since training has resumed, but we usually recruit by word of mouth, so not been too bad for us.”
WHERE DO YOU PLAY HOME GAME, AND ALSO WHERE DO YOU TRAIN (WHAT NIGHTS)?
“We played at Crookfur Pavilion in Newton Mearns, however this is up in the air at the moment, so we have applied for Cowan Park in Barrhead. We train on a Tuesday night in Muirend.”
DO YOU HAVE CLUB SPONSORS?
“We are lucky to have kit sponsors for our home kit, which is Ailsa, who are a Project Management Company.”
“We are currently looking for an away kit sponsor.”
WHAT ARE YOUR AIMS AND AMBITIONS MOVING INTO SEASON 2021-2022?
“Finish higher than the previous season is always our aim, with the potential restructuring will determine our overall goals.”
“Like anyone, we’d love a Cup run!”
