St Joseph’s AFC Coach Stephen Docherty has praised the outstanding commitment of the club’s players in the midst of a shocking run of injuries – but they are still leading the way in the Caledonian League-organised William Turner Challenge Cup Group 2, writes Tom Scott.
Seven points out of a maximum of eight have put them ahead of Dumbarton Academy F.P. and Thorn Athletic, with all to play for in remaining fixtures.
Stephen very kindly gave me a run-down of their last two outings and full goal scorers as follows:
Goalscores v Rhu. Won 5-1.
Kieran O Brian.
Sean Smith hat-trick.
Goalscores v Thorn. Won 4-0.(3-0 at half-time)
Kieran Green (a header).
Euan Urquart (20-yard free kick).
An own goal after great work from Kieran O’Brian, and also Sean Smith.
Stephen Docherty added: “Only had 12 fit players, and lost Dooley early in the first half with a pulled hamstring, and had players playing out of position and with injuries.”
“Unbelievable commitment (players) from them.”
In Group 1, St Mungo’s are a point ahead of Glasgow Harp following their 1-1 draw. In Group, 3 Dunblane Soccer Academy have full points from two games. Giffnock North defeated hosts Dalziel 3- 2 in midweek and top Group 4 by one point.
