Newcomers ‘Nauld Bank On Long-Term Friendships

Scottish Amateur Football News Exclusive

GDSFC newcomers Cumbernauld FC will use childhood friendships to forge the way ahead when they make their official debut in amateur football, writes Tom Scott.

Founded in August, 2020, Manager Matthew Leitch revealed this morning: “Due to the pandemic, things are only starting to get put in place.”

“We all came through and met in school, and have a core base of 13-14 players. At least two more will be added to the squad.”

“We wanted a way to keep in touch afterwards (from school), and the team formation was perfect to do just that.”

Despite training and regular park lets – plus access to dressing rooms being a long-way off – Cumbernauld FC have put together some excellent sessions for their players at Scotstoun Leisure Centre, and have made frequent use of group chats during the lockdowns.

‘Nauld player Matthew Sludden has his own clothing business, SLUDDEN APPAREL, and they are sponsoring the Home Kit for next season, which is a huge boost as money is tight running a Club at any level of the game.

Matthew Leitch added: “It’s great that Matthew and Sludden Apparel are on board with the Home Kit.”

“Now we would welcome any approaches from the Cumbernauld area – or outside – to sponsor the Away Kit, plus Match Footballs as we need good quality matchballs for the GSDFC League.”

The club are on Twitter and Instagram and he very kindly provided the links.

However, potential Kit Sponsor and Matchball Help should be directed to info. cumbernauldfc@ gmail.com. This will generate a quick and positive response from Matthew Leitch.
