Carluke Thistle AFC President Scott Parry insists making a competitive debut in the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL will be worth the wait – even if it takes place ten months later than was originally planned, writes Tom Scott.
Thistle should have opened up against Colquhoun United on 10th October.
Switching from Sunday League football to Saturday Afternoon action had been built-up with twice-weekly training sessions and a six-game unbeaten friendlies programme – Including visits to Edinburgh and Newcastle before the Government’s Tier-4 shut-down.
Said Scott: “That was actually one of the best Pre-Seasons I have been involved in.”
“One of our weekly sessions was at the Lanark Boxing Club, which we brilliant.”
“We faced tough opposition against Clubs from other Leagues. Our bonding weekend trip to Newcastle and 1-0-win against Seaton Burn came when travelling was allowed.”
“Our first Friendly took place during a beautiful day of weather in Edinburgh, and the lads responded with a 4-0 victory over Newcraighall Leith Vics.”
Highly-rated Lesmahagow were held to a 1-1 draw – Ryan Murdoch brilliantly producing a trademark free-kick equaliser – while there were goals aplenty against Boswell (2-0), Division 3 A rivals Moorpark Albion (11-1) and Carluke Hotspur (4-0).
No fewer than 11 players featured on the Goals Chart (23 netted and only 2 conceded). The Clubs all-time record goal scorer Mark Telfer bagged 11 of them from three games.
The rest was made up as follows:. 2- Kyle Hill and Gary Smith: 1 – Mikey Bennie, Scott Blacklaw, Jamie Callan, Jamie Kerr, Jay McFarlane, Ryan Murdoch, Alan Richardson, and David Ross.
Carluke Thistle AFC have also been able to retain their five Club Sponsors, which I have listed:
THE RAILWAY INN, ALAN FORSTER BARBER LANARK, DB REFRIGERATION & CATERING SERVICES LTD, DAVID MURPHY ROOFING & ROUGHCASTERS, and OCO PLUMBING & HEATING.
Many thanks to President Mr Scott Parry for the Sponsor Graphic.
