AFC Dynamo Glasgow are taking steps to start a Development Squad – and they won’t be short on numbers according to Manager Barry McCourt, writes Tom Scott.
The GDSFC outfit initially thought out the idea during the first batch of restricted training sessions as Barry exclusively revealed to Scottish Amateur Football News.
He said “Between the numbers we already have and the messages we’re still receiving messages from guys who would like to join the set up, it definitely makes sense for us to put another Squad together.”
“Before lockdown, we were having to run a few different sessions to ensure everyone was getting the chance to train. With 26 guys registered already and other people coming along, it was impossible to train everyone together due to restrictions and we were having to train with reduced numbers.”
“As this was working quite well for us the decision was then made to start a Development Squad. This way every one of our players are guaranteed game time on a Sunday when we finally get back. To achieve this, we have had to bring on another Coach. One of our players, Connor Moir, jumped at the chance to lead the Development Team.”
“Connor is currently completing an HND in Sports Coaching and Development, and wants to study the same at University. He also holds 1.1 and 1.2 Coaching Badges, as well as a 1.1 Goalkeeper Certificate.”
“Alongside Connor will be our youngest Coach, Lewis McCourt. At the age of 17, Lewis has got bags of experience in coaching – something he has been doing from 13 years of age. Lewis has just been accepted onto an NQ Football Coaching and Development with a view to studying Sports Psychology at University.”
“Both these guys have the desire and determination to not only make this team a success, but to one day carve out a career in Coaching. Something that will only be good for AFC Dynamo Glasgow.”
Connor said today “I’m looking forward to working with the boys. Give them something to look forward to coming back to football after a good while off. Work hard to get them fit and healthy both mentally and physically again and looking forward to getting back on the pitch after so long.”
Lewis added “I am looking forward to being back at it after a long wait. I can’t wait to be back with the lads and start preparing for the road ahead”
