Nine Goals, Extra-Time and a Man of the Match Award for a hat-trick hero on the night – all part of Bannockburn AFC defeating Oban Saints 6-3 to lift the Alona Hotel West of Scotland Amateur Cup at Hamilton in 2019, writes Tom Scott.
Another excuse for breaking open the champagne was ‘Burn recording their fifth West Cup success in 50 years of playing Amateur Football!
Surprisingly, the half-time score line was 0-0, but within a minute of the re-start Man of the Match Steven Knox fired Bannockburn ahead. Saints’ reply was swift and telling with goals via Lewis Cameron and Cammy Hill.
Burn struck with counters from Knox (65 mins) and Ryan Weir two minutes later before a composed finish by young Oban sharp-shooter Hill forced the rip-roaring cup-tie into extra-time.
Bannockburn’s experience proved crucial, and Darren Walker, Knox (the hat-trick), and David Grant rounded off the evening. Steven Knox was named Morris Toner Trophy Man of the Match.
