Motherwell Villa AFC – A Team Built From The Ground Upwards

Motherwell Villa Manager Joe Stafford can still remember starting out with only four players turning up at a training session, and taking things virtually on a day-to-day basis, writes Tom Scott.

What a difference almost 5 years later!

He openly admits: “I try to do things differently at our Club, and offer everyone involved that bit extra. Our main Sponsor is GAS Assured Scotland run by Stephen Dunne. Stephen gives the Club a massive boost, and is unlike any other sponsor around. He helps with water for both teams every week, and also a bottle of champagne for our A (First), and B teams for the Man of the Match regardless if we win, lose or draw.”

“Stephen also helped massively in getting every player across the two teams their very own home and away kit. We do have three other sponsors in Pheonix Specialist Solutions, who help fund our youth team Motherwell Villa Colts. The Bullfrog Pub provide After- Match Hospitality, and The Italian Job Chip Shop, who provide both First (A) and B team the Player of the Month Munchie Box.”

“I started the team off in ANC and were there for 4 years reaching three Semi Finals, and getting two promotions in that time. We have moved our two teams across to the Lanarkshire Division and are excited to get started.”

“Every year we do host our annual Race Night which has had a few footballers from Motherwell FC come and show support in the past. We also do our annual Player of the Year awards, which does see more than 100 people show up each time. We like our awards for the players, and each season we do 3 Player of the Year awards. Players ‘Player – Voted by the players. Manager’s Player – Voted by the coaches. Player of the Year – This is based on a Fantasy Football scoring system.”

“Gives an extra incentive for the lads to play well in games, and the scores get uploaded to the Group Chat. The players are scored based on goals, assists, clean sheets, Man of the Match, and also have points taken off if booked or don’t show up.”

“We also do Best Player of Each Position, Goal of the Season, Save of the Season, Most Assists, Fair Play Award, Unsung Hero, Clubman, Top Goal Scorer and Most Improved.”

“This does give a chance for everyone to win something, and keeps the night interesting.”

“Can I finish with some very interesting Club shouts: Top Scorer – Daniel Murray – 167 goals in 88 appearances. Most Appearances – Ryan Kells 100. Most Assists – Stef Findlay – 73 assists in 96 games.”
