Our other popular Series….HEADLINE MAKERS REVISTED and THE BIG INTERVIEWS…have produced great Visitors Stats, and I am confident WE WERE THE CHAMPIONS will belong in the same category.
Our first glowing mention is reserved for MOTHERWELL KINGS AFC.
Many thanks to Paul Jarvie and John Barr for their help, and submitting a real “We Were The Champions” photograph.
Paul set the scene when he revealed : “Well, in that 2018- 2019 season pivotal games were important for us – turning points would be against Cumbernauld with a late goal to win 3-2. A beautiful cross by Thomas Anderson met by the head of Callum Graham.”
“As well as the wins, there was also the loses that included a 5-3 defeat against Auchenfoyle at home set us up for the away game , in which we were 3-2 up after a tight game, and it was important to see out that game.”
“The main games were against Machan ( away) earlier in the season. We had lost 2-1 to them after a tight game going in 1-1 at half-time. This game set us up in the league for our home clash against Machan. After establishing a good league position, it came down to this game. The match finished 2-2, and were down 2-0 in that game, but fought hard to come back to give us that vital point needed to set-up the final league game against Avendale, which we won 4-1, and that was despite Machan winning 8-3 the same day.”
“There were memorable games – such as 11-1 win against Law. Callum Graham scored all 11 goals, but definitely a team effort that day, as well as individual brilliance , and then the importance of maintaining even a point away from home against tough opposition UCA.”
“The season itself was a tough one. We put ourselves in a good position to have even more success not only in the league, but fell at the final hurdle in the Cups.”
“Winning the Premier League was a great feeling, a real achievement for the effort that everyone had poured into that season, and it was something in the making with the potential in the team, and now it was a reality. “
