Headline Makers Revisited – Stepford Tournament (August 2015)

Writer Tom Scott has covered the four-team Stepford Tournament – played between Glasgow East End based Amateur clubs, and organised by Easthall Star AFC – over the years.

Pre-Season tournaments provided an excellent format for clubs to gain match fitness. Four Saturdays at Stepford Road (Easterhouse) were sponsored Ultimate Car Wash and provided plenty of goals from eventual winners Tynecastle AFC. runners-up Garrowhill Thistle, Easthall Star Red Star.


Week One: Garrowhill 3, Tynecastle 4; Red Star 2, Easthall 1.

Week Two: Red Star 2, Tynecastle 2; Garrowhill 1, Easthall 1.

Week Three: Red Star 1, Garrowhill 6; Tynecastle 4, Easthall 0.

3rd/4th Place Play-Off: Red Star 0, Easthall Star 4.

Final: Tynecastle AFC 1,. Garrowhill Thistle 0.

Meanwhile, FINNART failed in their attempt to win the East Kilbride YM FC Annual Invitation Tournament.

The Bridgeton club, who had won Group 3, lost 2-1 against Shawlands FP in the Sunday final Finnart trailed 2-0 and pulled one back through a Steven Wilson penalty kick, but they couldn’t find another goal

TYNECASTLE A.F.C.(pictured) after beating Garrowhill Thistle 1-0 in the Final of the Stepford Tournament, which was organised by Easthall Star.

Chris Hughes netted the only goal of a hard-fought encounter from the penalty spot. Jamie Cochrane (Tynecastle AFC) was voted Player of the Tournament.
