Headline Makers Revisited – Drumchapel Amateurs Colts AFC

Scottish Amateur Footballl News Writer Tom Scott looked at the remarkab!e run of success enjoyed by Drumchapel Amateurs Colts in the Scottish Amateur Football League Winning three consecutive championships.

Season 2013- 2014 would signal the start, when Colts held off an incredible challenge from Ferguslie Star in Division 1B. Both clubs scored over 100 goals – Star actually had a better goal difference – but Drumchapel took the plaudits thanks to 18 wins and 2 defeats over 20 games.

A year later, the Premier 2 trophy was heading back to their silverware cabinet, when the Amateurs finished ten points ahead of runners-up Easthall Star.

Undaunted, Drumchapel strode towards the Championship Treble and the SAFL Premier 1. Ferguslie and Motherwell Thistle were never far away from the top-three frame, but again the title champagne tasted wonderfully well!

Over those 3 seasons, Drumchapel Amateurs Colts played a total of 62 league fixtures. They recorded 51 wins, 3 draws and sustained 8 defeats. No fewer than 261 goals were scored for the loss of 98.

It is worth noting that Bridgewater AFC, who have since sadly folded, were crowned Division 1B Champions in 2014- 2015 (scoring 101 goals) and the following season won a Premier 2 title by virtue of 20 straight wins – netting 90 goals.
