Their stay in Division One of the John Smith’s – sponsored Central Scottish League would last only a season after Wellhouse clinched promotion back to the top-flight with a 2-1 victory against Brightons at Stepford Road, Easterhouse, writes Tom Scott.
Top Scorer George Scott was the two-goal hero for ‘House, who went into their final domestic fixture knowing one point would be enough to kick-start the celebrations!
The breakthrough came just before half-time. Zander Simpson and J.P. Kenna exchanged short passes which allowed Scott to rifle home a 20 yarder.
Despite playing into a second half wind, Wellhouse continued to operate their fluent passing game, and George Scott extended the lead with a magnificent shot from outside the penalty area for his 38th goal of the season.
Although Brightons reduced the leeway a minute from time, Wellhouse Secretary Robert Noble could not hide his delight and said “Everyone was outstanding – it was a real team effort.”
“We won the 50-50 tackles in the game, which was vital, and netted two more goals, which means we have finished up the top-scoring team in this Division.
“The early indications are we will have most of these players going back up again, and the squad can be further strengthened for Premier Division football.”
