Woodlands FC Manager Derek Fox admits he has been blown away with the concept and commitment of the GDSFC set-up – especially when Christmas comes around. Taking charge of the Only Sport Ltd Division 1 club Derek told me “I have played in the league with a couple of different teams before starting my own team for around 8 years now, and one of the best things that makes our set-up stand out from any other has always been the Charity aspect of the League. There are not many non-profit making Amateur Leagues out there, so it is nice to be part of something that always gives back to the local Community/Charities.”
“I got on board the Spirit of Christmas Campaign for the exact same reasoning. This is the second year now we have had the opportunity to help out, and we will do our bit every year. Being able to make such a massive difference to a kids Christmas with so little effort is a no brainer. I only wish we could have done more or got more donations. No kid should be without a gift on Christmas Day. I touted the campaign on our Social Media pages and in my work, also trying to get as many people on board as possible.”
“Unfortunately, it’s been a tough year for most financially, so we did not get as much interest as I had hoped. In regards to the team, I offered the boys Two options (A) pick up a Gift themselves or (B) fire a Donation into the Team Account and I would sort the toys out. Not surprisingly, those who helped opted for the money transfer lol.”
“Once all funds were in, I just went out and picked up the gifts!”
Well done, everyone. You are a credit to the GDSFC. Thank you to Derek Fox for the photograph.
