Headline Makers Revisited – Glasgow Sunday Amateur League (Season 2008-2009)

Castlemilk Dynamo AFC held off the challenge of Haghill AFC and the Centaur AFC to clinch their second successive Glasgow Sunday Amateur Football Amateur League Premier Division title in season 2008-2009, writes TOM SCOTT.

Three divisions were sponsored by Surridge Sports, and Dynamo took the silverware thanks to only two defeats (no draws)over 14 games.

Haghill pushed them all the way and were just four points adrift, while third-placed Centaur finished seven points behind the champions.

The top-flight also featured Easthall Star, Govan Harhill,Vale of Leven, Milton and Millbrae.

If the Premier Division was tense, spare a thought for the top three clubs from the First Division, where five points split Champions Provanmill Thistle, runners-up Castlemilk United and Drumchapel Athletic.

Budhill, Westburn, Auld Firm United, Glasgow East and Tullichewan completed the chasing pack.

Second Division Champions Westhill were a class act as they proved with one defeat and one draw over 20 games.

Cardonald, 11 points behind, edged out Castlemilk Thistle by one point for second place.

Sandymount, Renton, Rutherglen Vultures, JML Accies, P.A.C. Springhall, Cardowan, and The Ritz completed clubs in Membership.
