Amateurs In The Spotlight – Craigneuk AFC

Today, something completely different at Scottish Amateur Football News…. A brand new idea which could have been incorporated into a Football Programme – funny enough I collect them – but since there are no games we can go and watch, our good friends at CRAIGNEUK AMATEURS have helped out with their questions (and without rehearsed answers) to willing members of the Backroom Staff!

Many thanks to the Gaffer JOHN COLLINS, Assistant STEPHEN, and Player- Coach BOBBY.

Be prepared for some entertainment!

Stephen Rooney (Assistant Manager)
Age: 38.
Club Role: Assistant Manager.
Previous clubs: Motherwell, Lesmahagow Juniors, Craigneuk.
Favourite film: Rocky 4.
Biggest win/ best memory: 17-0 against Burnbank playing for Caledonian Select / memory playing in a Cup Final for Motherwell at Carrow Road, Norwich in front of few thousand, sadly lost the game but a great experience.
Best trainer: me 😂
Worst trainer: Stuart Thomson.
Best player played with: Jose Quitongo.
Time with club: 15 years as player / 2nd year as Assistant Manager .
Whats your aim with Craigneuk: To put Craigneuk on the map and to help the boys progress. We have the right manager, coaches and players to start challenging for leagues and cups, which I’m confident we can do.
Longest in shower: not me 😞

NEXT UP:
Bobby Thomson (Player/Coach)
Age: 33.
Club Role / Position: Kid on Player / Coach – Bench.
Previous clubs: Be here all day .. give you my last 3 – Cambuslang Rangers, Livingston Juniors, Anvil.
Favourite film / tv series: Taken & Money Heist.
Biggest win/best memory: 11-0 v Kirkcaldy in my final game as Livingston Manager led to a mention from Jeff Sterling on Soccer Saturday – Signing my first professional contract with Aberdeen in front of my Mum and Dad at 16.
Best trainer: Richie Kay.
Worst trainer: Aaron “turn up 20 mins late miss the running” Kane.
Best player played with: Kieran McGurk
Best player played against: Stevie Murray – Led to a saying from Jimmy Nicol that still runs through my head to this day – half time its 3-0 to Kilmarnock, I have given away a penalty and Stevie Murray has scored two!..He (J.N.) hooks me at half-time and says: Son “What the F**k, was that you.. didn’t know whether to fart or shite.!
Time with club: 1 year.
What’s your aim with Craigneuk: Continue to make training as enjoyable as possible while trying to coach the boys into good habits. Some of these boys are good enough to make the step up to Junior and even Senior football if they work hard enough. Myself, John, Steff and Duddy want to bring success to Craigneuk, and with this current group I think it’s very possible. If the boys continue putting in the effort and hard work during this difficult period, we will have no problem achieving success once the season gets going.
Longest in the shower: Ask me this again when we are allowed to shower after games.
