The Aberdeenshire AFA season may be over two months away from starting, but that has not stopped Faithlie United AFC from going quietly about their squad-building business – on and off the park.
Friendlies are currently still permitted within the Region and a double from Aaron Garden helped United turn around going behind against St Marnans FC, for whom Davey McCallum netted, in Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Links Park, Fraserburgh.
September was the starting point when Faithlie could organise friendlies, and blend together new signings with the experience of defenders Danny Reid and Martyn Sommers, plus central midfielders John Murray and Drew Masson.
Murray was voted Managers and Players’ Player of the Year. Aside from St Marnans, United have also been able to slot in non-competitive matches against Turriff Thistle FC, Fraserburgh Under-17s, Longside Juniors, Buchanhaven Amateurs, and Invercairn United.
Faithlie United were crowned Division Three champions in 2016-2017, and won a Division Two North title two years later.
When the new Division One East programme kicks-off, the club will be playing AC Mill Inn, Alford, Beacon Rangers, *Blackburn or Glendale, Cammachmore, Continental, Ellon Thistle, Great Western United, Halliburton, Kaimhill United, Kemnay Amateurs, Kintore, and Westdyke.
*Indicates a Play-Off.
