Nine Goal Thriller Earns Sunday Vale Final Place

Vale of Clyde Sunday Amateur team edged out their Saturday Morning  squad  5-4 to reach the final of the first inter-club  tournament. Fullarton Park was in tip-top condition for the 10am kick-off,  and both teams, although rusty from the long Covid-19 break, still managed to serve up an action packed 90 minutes.

Vale of Clyde Sunday raced into a 2-0 lead. Kieran Egan opened up with a contender for goal of the day turning brilliantly and delivering a composed finish.

Bryan Felvus added the second scoring from a tight angle.

The youthful Vale Saturday Morning side came back into the game, and Jack McCann grabbed his first of the day, followed by a second goal. A good ball was played down the channel and Mc Cann made a front post run, followed by his  finish  on the stroke of half-time.

The second half repeated the opening 45 minutes format. The Sunday boys scored twice again initially a header from Egan ( his second of the game) and one from captain Graeme Lees.

As the game became more stretched. Saturday Morning goalkeeper, Tommy Hunter, produced the save of the day. He somehow managed to stretch his body, and tip away a Russell long range drive that was destined for the postage stamp top corner.

Equally impressive was young centre back Jake Green for the Saturday Morning side. He capped an outstanding performance with a well taken goal at the back post.  Definitely game on!

However,  Vale Sunday restored thier two- goal advantage, when Rab Martin found himself in the box to slot home. To their credit, Vale Saturday refused to lie down, and Jamie Fitzpatrick found the net as his team-mates went all out for the equaliser. They carved out a few half chances, but failed to convert into goals.

Overall a good game for the squads to be involved in. Vale of Clyde Sunday will play in the final against the Vale of Clyde First team this Saturday,. September 26. Kick-off 2pm at Fullarton Park, Tollcross.

Cambuslang Football Academy Under-21s, who lost in the second game against Vale First Team, go up against the youthful Vale of Clyde Saturday squad  now in the 3rd v 4th place play-off at Fullarton Park on Saturday (10am start).
