New Boss Praises Baillieston Thistle Youth Structure

Baillieston Thistle AFC Manager Alan Lindsay has barely settled into the hot seat, but is acutely aware of the work that has taken place over the past four years putting a youth structure in place. Dedicated coaches, led by Liam Martin, have put in a power of work and Alan revealed: “I do not want it to look like I am taking the credit for the work that has been done on the youth set up side of things.”

“There’s an awful lot of hard work and effort gone on behind the scenes for the last four years to get the set up to where it is. I have not had anything to do with that. I am just in the door to look after the amateur team, however I am very keen to help out with anything that they might need in terms of the youth set up.”

“I was lucky to be involved in the Celtic and Ross County youth set ups, and it is something I feel passionate about.”

Liam Martin kindly took time to tell me “Baillieston Thistle started in 2016 with 16 boys from the 2009 age group. Fast forward four years we now have teams at 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014 and seniors. All kids teams are playing in the Glasgow and District Youth Football League from fun 5s, 7s,9s and 11s. We have had over 8 boys picked up by pro clubs like Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell and Hamilton. The vision is to build a community football club with teams at all age groups with a pathway to senior football.”

“We believe in giving back to the area , and work very closely with the local food banks and youth clubs. In terms of sponsorship we have been relying on the generosity of local businesses. We have applied for a national lottery grant to help with equipment for the kids and to try and help grow the club even more. In turn, hopefully this will help increase sponsorship and again give the local community something that we can all be proud of. Hopefully, this will see us grow for many years to come. “
